 Jeff Scofield is a native New Yorker. He grew up in Penn Yan, New York, a small town approximately sixty miles south of Rochester, Pittsford and Brighton. Upon graduation from high school, Jeff entered the United States Air Force, working as a crew member on the Titan II underground nuclear missile system. Following a four year term in the military, Jeff attended Oklahoma State University and received a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering, and subsequently a Masters Degree (MBA) in Marketing. Jeff began his real estate career in 1986 in the investment arena. In 1992, Jeff began dedicating his time to the sales of residential real estate. Jeff has rapidly emerged as one of the top agents in the Greater Rochester, Pittsford and Brighton area. In 2003, just ten years after starting his career in real estate sales, Jeff was awarded the Platinum Sales Masters Award. This is the highest award a Realtor can recieve for sales production. In addition, Jeff was voted as Rochester's, choice for favorite Real Estate Agent by all of Rochester, Pittsford and Brighton's residents. Photography In his free time, Jeff enjoys golf, martial arts, weight training, hiking, and spending time with his family. One of the sayings from the "gold-rush" days--"Them that's got the gold, sets the price!"--is also a principle that applies to real estate. We say that a house is only worth what someone will pay for it, even though the owner, the bank, and the agent all have their own opinions about the "market value" of a home. In other words, no sale ever takes place until the buyer agrees with the price.
How can sellers arrive at the maximum "fair" price that buyers are willing to pay? Buyers (and appraisers) make their decision based on comparisons. While shopping for a home, buyers will visit many similar homes in their price range and measure the features of each one against the price. They decide which house offers them the maximum value for the price. Buyers do not expect a home to be a "steal" or dramatically under-priced, but they do expect it to be a fair value.
Sellers must determine the value that their home offers in order to arrive at the right price. The real estate agent will advise the sellers what buyers should be willing to pay for their home, but the asking price is set by the seller.
